| Background | As a member of the natural killer cell receptor C-type lectin family, this protein (commonly identified as OSCAR or related to CLEC family) is a type II transmembrane receptor that contains an extracellular C-type lectin-like domain and an N-terminal transmembrane region. It negatively regulates osteoclastogenesis and inhibits bone resorption. The encoded protein mediates inhibitory signals through intracellular immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, though the biological functions of these isoforms are not fully characterized. |
