Background	African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious hemorrhagic viral disease of domestic and wild pigs that is responsible for serious economic and production losses. It is caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV), a large and complex icosahedral DNA virus of the Asfarviridae family. Protein p72 is the major capsid protein of African swine fever virus (ASFV) and is an important target for test and vaccine development. Previous studies showed that p72 is a major antigen in infected pigs and is widely used as a marker for diagnosis of infection.
