Background | Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), also called human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV), can cause infections of the lungs and respiratory tract. RSV also cause more severe infections such as bronchiolitis, an inflammation of the small airways in the lung, and pneumonia, an infection of the lungs. RSV is a negative-sense, single-stranded RNA virus. Its nucleocapsid (NC), which comprises the negative sense RNA viral genome coated by the viral nucleoprotein N, is a critical assembly that serves as template for both mRNA synthesis and genome replication. Nucleoprotein(RSV)play important roles during RSV replication and transcription, thereby providing further targets for antiviral research. |
