Background	Transforming growth factor beta 1 or TGF-beta;1 is a multifunctional cytokine that regulates the proliferation and differentiation of cells specific to bone like chondrocytes, osteoblasts, osteoclasts including mesenchymal precursor cells. It is known to promote the pathogenesis of lung fibrosis and acts as a tumor suppressor in normal cells. TGF-beta1 can promote mechanical strength in healing Achilles tendons by regulating collagen synthesis, cross-link formation, and matrix remodeling.
