Background	CSF2 wasinitially characterized as a growth factor that can support the in vitrocolony formation of granulocyte-macrophage progenitors. It is produced by anumber of different cell types in response to cytokine or immune andinflammatory stimuli. On mature hematopoietic cells, CSF2 is a survivalfactor for and activates the effectors functions of granulocytes monocytes, macrophages, and eosinophils.
