| Background | Chemokine (C-X-Cmotif) Ligand 16 (CXCL16) is a member of the CXC chemokine amily and signalsthrough the CXCR6 receptor. CXCL16 may play a role in attracting lmphocytesubsets during inflammation and may facilitate certain immune responses. Thechemokine domain of CXCL16 contains six cysteine residues including the four highlyconserved cysteine residues characteristic of CXC chemokines. Theextracellular portion of CXCL16 contains a chemokine domain and an extendedC-terminal mucin-like stalk sequence. The extracellular domaincontains 89 amino acid residues (86 aa residues for the mouse homolog). |
