Background	The CD3 ligand is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein of the tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily. CD3L is expressed on the cell surface of activated T cells, B cells, and monocytes. Recombinant CD3L has been shown to co-stimulate T cells and to act as a mitogen for Hodgkin"s disease derived cell lines. The receptor for CD3L, CD3/TNFRSF8/CD153, is a type I cytokine receptor that is highly expressed by activated T cells, Hodgkin and Reed- Sternberg (H-RS) cells, and anaplastic large cell lymphoma cells. CD3 ligation by CD3L mediates pleiotropic effects including cell proliferation, activation, differentiation and cell death by apoptosis.
