| Background | Salmonella typhi, the causative agent of typhoid fever, is a serotype of Salmonella enterica. It is transmitted by the faecal-oral route and is highly infectious. The main symptom of infection is a high fever of 39-40℃. Other symptoms include abdominal pain, severe diarrhoea, headache and rosacea, often called "typhoid fever", intestinal bleeding or perforation is its most serious complication. |
